Curbing Human Trafficking in Asia

Curbing Human Trafficking in Asia

Although small in size, this country (not listed for security reasons) is the primary source of girls used in the sex trade in all of Asia and much of the world. The 1,100-mile border to the south has always been known as the busiest sex trafficking gateway in the world. On average, 54 girls a day are taken across the border where they are married off to rich men, purchased to harvest their organs, put into brothels and raped multiple times every day, or sent across the ocean to the US where they are forced to work as prostitutes in massage parlors. For every girl that is rescued from the sex trade, there are ten more waiting to take her place. What would you do if these were your daughters?

The primary religion in the country leads its people to believe that girls are not valuable. The educational and occupational opportunities all depend on what family and level in society you come from. Boys are given every opportunity for education and good employment that is available to them, and the girls are left to work in the fields, brick ovens, or shipped off.

Severe impoverishments make young women prime targets for sex traffickers. Families often sell their children because they can’t afford to feed them, are lied to, and led to believe that they are going for a great job opportunity, and sometimes the girls even go willingly for the money. How can you help people who have no opportunity to better their lives and escape these situations?

For the past 3 1/2 years, our missionaries have been living and working in a village that is in the center of the most affected area of the country. This is where the majority of girls are taken from (for the security of those we serve, we are not listing the village here). We have been hiring girls to work in our cafe to help prevent them from being trafficked. However, we have seen girls have a decent job and quit in order to go into prostitution simply for more money. We have learned that the only way to prevent them from willingly entering prostitution is to get Christ into the hearts of the people and change the way that they value the girls and how the girls value themselves. This knowledge is leading us to relocate the coffee shop to make a larger impact on the sex trade from both ends. We want to stop the girls from getting into it in the first place, and we want to help the girls who have been rescued from it. What are you willing to do to make a huge difference in these girls' lives?

This new location will better allow our missionaries to hire girls who have been rescued and train them in the skills of working in a restaurant. The shame-based culture generally prevents them from returning to their homes and families, and so there are special houses available for them to live in. We want to partner with these houses by providing valuable skills to their girls. We want to provide these essential skills to give them the opportunities to work in higher-end hotels and resorts and to assimilate back into society and a normal life again.

To combat the sex trade from the back end, we are partnering with a local Bible professor and local pastors. The churches in this country have strong desires to send out their own missionaries, but often don’t have the training and resources to do so. We will train congregants from the local churches in evangelism and disciple-making. After completion, we will then strategically send them out two-by-two into the villages where girls are taken from and begin discipling people by bringing the love of Christ into their lives. Many of these villages have no churches or Christians and often have never heard of Jesus before. Has the Lord called on you to partner with us in saving these girls and leading villages to Christ?

We can spend all our time and energies reaching one village and work to stop the sex trade on one end, or we can relocate and make a greater impact by working together to stop the sex trade from both ends simultaneously.  The choice is clear, God has made known His will for this ministry, what is He saying to you?

We need to raise $50,000 for this relocation and repurposing of the ministry. The $50,000 will be used to cover the moving expenses, setting up in the new location, purchasing updated equipment that will allow us to train the girls in current practices that they will need for future employment, covering all the legal fees involved with the relocation, as well as give us one extra visa to offer someone to enter the country.

Phil. 4:15-20: And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the Gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

How is the Lord leading you to be a part of helping the girls who have been and or at risk of being in the sex trade? Do you have a heart for raising up disciple-makers and changing the face of a nation by training and sending them out through the whole nation?
