We are looking forward to the completion of our solar power project this fall for the Mokanji Medical Clinic and Ministry Campus in Sierra Leone! Once this happens, the second phase of renovations and improvements to the Clinic will expand the healthcare services offered to the community. In order to move on to the next phase, we need to raise $26,500!

The Mokanji Medical Clinic and Ministry Campus are located in one of the largest southern districts of Sierra Leone, with an estimated population of 500,000 people. Sierra Leone has been listed as one of the poorest countries in the world, with one of the highest infant mortality rates. As the only health facility within an hour and a half radius, the Mokanji Medical Clinic has become a critical component in the community.

The primary medical facility at the Mokanji Campus is a community health unit, which was a former hospital building. The facility has a completely rehabilitated exterior, and about half of the interior has been remodeled. This building currently operates as a community health center, which sees approximately 150 mothers and their babies each month. The Ministry Campus includes completed guesthouse facilities that are able to accommodate up to 13 visiting staff. There are also two three-bedroom houses to support the full-time missionaries living on the compound.

The initial phase of projects at the clinic ensured a secure, safe environment with clean running water and sanitary conditions. However, more improvements are necessary to provide adequate supplies, equipment, and space for staff and patients. MissionGO’s vision for the Mokanji Medical Clinic is to complete an additional 5,000 square foot interior that will increase the clinic’s capacity for overnight patient care, as many patients who require around-the-clock care must be transported by ambulance almost 2 hours away. There will also be space for a laboratory to allow for diagnostic testing, such as routine bloodwork, as well as isolated care facilities for individuals with unknown disease diagnoses. We also desire to purchase critically-needed medical equipment to increase the storage of medicines that require a cold temperature.

MissionGO and the Mokanji Medical Campus and Ministry Center exist to share the Good News of Jesus Christ through caring for the whole person, both physically and spiritually.
