We serve the children and the churches in and around Soroti, Uganda.  We are currently working with an awesome group of Ugandan peers to teach and train church leaders, village pastors, and school teachers on various children's ministry techniques and tools.  An energetic group of singers and musicians - called Oil of Gladness - are a delight for us to minister within churches, schools, and at crusades or holiday events. Our prayer is to continue being a part of discipleship groups, friendship evangelism in the market, and be open to the Spirit's leading for further ministry opportunities.

Growing up in rural Ontario, I (Karen) always knew that I wanted to serve Jesus.  During my years at Bible College, I got to know some foreign students from East Africa and in the late 90's God placed a heartbeat for Uganda inside of me.  After being a nanny in the Netherlands, tutoring missionary kids in the Philippines, and serving as a support worker, the Lord finally opened the door in 2009.  I went to Soroti for a one-year short-term experience and absolutely fell in love with the people and ministry variety there in northern Uganda.

Since 2011, I have been sharing Jesus in Soroti, Uganda as a full-time missionary.  Children's ministry is exciting - as I help to train teachers in creative teaching methods, colourful curriculum like that of OneHope, and sports as an evangelism tool.  I also cherish my time with the kids - participating in school assemblies, religious education classes, Bible club, Kids camp, and neighbourhood entertainment. Singing and ministering with OIL of GLADNESS brings pure joy to my life, as we strive to bring a garment of praise to churches and leaders in Soroti.  We are working on a small piggery project to raise money for musical instruments and equipment. I am also involved in discipleship, friendship evangelism, and just overall encouraging the local church to understand and live in the GRACE of God.
