Media & Digital Content Coordinator in Japan

Reaching Japan: Ministry Full-Time Position

Media & Digital Content Coordinator

Position Purpose
1) Use video and digital media to engage Japanese audiences with little/no church background (creating engaging content that opens doors to the Gospel).

2) Advance the ministry's outreach and communication goals — serving English-speaking audiences abroad (helping them understand Japan's spiritual needs and engage with the ministry)

Japanese a Video production is the core focus, supported by graphics, audio, web, publishing, and content development skills. Ideal candidate is a creative, technically capable media generalist who can take an idea from concept to finished product with minimal direction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Video Production (core focus): Film and edit short- and long-form content (updates, interviews, testimonies, teaching, promos) for social media, YouTube, and ministry websites; shoot with cameras/smartphones/basic lighting; edit with pacing, music, titles, captions; produce both vertical and horizontal formats. Priority is clear, timely communication over cinematic polish.
  • Digital Content Production: Design graphics for events/campaigns; do basic audio editing (podcasts, sermons, interviews); create subtitles/captions in English and Japanese; adapt translations into natural-looking content; repurpose one piece of content (e.g., an interview) into multiple formats — video, clips, social posts, graphics, podcast, web content.
  • Web Content: Make routine updates to ministry websites (pages, images, text, forms); keep info current; troubleshoot basic issues; build simple landing/event pages. Focus is content management, not development.
  • Publishing & Distribution: Format and publish/schedule content across platforms, optimized per platform; maintain branding consistency; organize content for reuse; track basic metrics (views, engagement) to inform future content.
  • Content Development: Help identify stories and content ideas from ministry life; shape hooks/formats for Japanese vs. English audiences; make content accessible to those unfamiliar with Christianity; turn leadership's ministry goals into concrete media projects.

Media Organization: Maintain an organized, reusable archive of footage, photos, audio, project files, graphics, templates, and exports.

Ideal Candidate: Strong, efficient video editor; competent shooter (composition, lighting, sound); solid visual eye for graphics; capable in basic audio editing and website updates; understands cross-platform content differences; strong storytelling instincts; self-directed, organized, and technically resourceful; values efficient, consistent output over perfectionism; sees media as a ministry tool, not an end in itself.

Helpful Experience: Premiere Pro/Final Cut/DaVinci Resolve; Photoshop/Illustrator/Canva; Audition/Logic/GarageBand; WordPress; YouTube and short-form vertical video; podcasting; photography; motion graphics; subtitling; basic SEO/analytics; Japanese-language media; cross-cultural communication.

Success Looks Like: Consistent, efficient high-quality video; ministry stories captured, not missed; content effectively repurposed across platforms; current, useful websites; English content deepening understanding of Japan's spiritual needs; Japanese content reaching the unchurched; more people moving from online engagement to real ministry interaction; increasingly organized and sustainable media systems.

Guiding question: How can we use media more effectively to help people see, understand, and engage with the mission?

Onramp

Those who do not possess required Japanese language skills will be involved in full-time language school (2 years) and transition into fulltime ministry as language skills and cultural awareness increase.
