For 100 years, Canada’s National Bible Hour has been sharing the Gospel message over the radio each week. As the oldest North American Gospel broadcast, the program aims to engage audiences across Canada and the United States with the Word of God, to refresh believers, and to guide those seeking spiritual direction. This faithful and fruitful ministry is just one among many using the airwaves to reach every corner of the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. And it’s all thanks to friends like you.
Is radio still a relevant media in our age of media abundance? Yes! Christian radio remains an enduring and influential lifeline for the Gospel. It is a unique bridge that crosses deserts, jungles, and closed borders, delivering the hope of Christ to those who need it most. No other medium can reach the illiterate, the isolated, the persecuted, and those in the least-reached places like radio can.
Radio as a Mission Field
Christian radio broadcasts in native languages and dialects and breaks through barriers of literacy, poverty, and even government censorship. For many, radio is their only accessible source of spiritual nourishment.
In places where religious freedom is restricted or heavily monitored, radio is often the only way the Gospel can be shared. Shortwave and AM signals can bypass borders, evade censorship, and reach listeners in the privacy of their homes. It also connects isolated believers with God’s global Church.
It’s hard for many to imagine sparse access to digital resources, but this is a reality for many living in rural areas of the world. In regions with unreliable electricity and limited internet, a simple battery-powered radio becomes the most effective tool for bringing the Gospel to millions who lack access to Biblical teaching.
Christian radio is not just for initial evangelism; it also provides believers with ongoing discipleship, teaching, and necessary encouragement. Many stations serve as a bridge, connecting isolated and vulnerable believers to worldwide Christian fellowship.
From Local Stations to Global Streams
MissionGO missionaries use a variety of methods to broadcast the Gospel across the airwaves. Some operate their own stations, while others partner with local networks, purchasing airtime to share weekly or monthly programs. Others contribute to MGO Radio, our 24/7 online streaming platform, where they can schedule program hours to reach their global audience. Each approach serves one purpose: to bring the hope of Jesus to listeners who may otherwise never hear the Gospel.
MissionGO Ministries Using Radio to Advance the Gospel:
The Voice of Faith online radio, a ministry of MissionGO missionaries, reaches into high-security areas in the Middle East where Christians often face persecution. Their website was found by Saeed, who grew up in a religiously strict family in Saudi Arabia. Searching for certainty about his eternal destiny, Saeed reached out connected with someone who listened and answered his questions. Through the radio program and reading the Bible, Saeed came to know Christ and gained certainty of eternal life by faith!
Another missionary couple produces Christian teaching and evangelistic programs in Arabic and Kabyle, broadcasting them via web radio to North Africa. As a result, the number of listeners continues to grow, along with a steady stream of encouraging stories about lives transformed by the Gospel.
In Tabora, Tanzania, MissionGO partners with Trans World Radio for the Radio Uhai ministry. This ministry distributes solar-powered radios, enabling listeners to hear the Word of God. Listeners share powerful testimonies of how Radio Uhai has transformed their spiritual lives. Through the program Pray With Me, led by Pastor Samson Segereti, many have come to know Christ and experienced miraculous healing. Ester was healed from stomach and dental problems and conceived after praying with Pastor Segereti. Angelina was delivered from ancestral spirits that tormented her, leading to a stable marriage after praying with Pastor Segereti through Radio Uhai.
Missionary Steve Regnault records weekly teaching messages in French and English for MissionGO's worldwide online radio programming. These teachings are broadcast weekly and reach listeners in countries such as Germany, the United States, India, Korea, Kiribati, and Ukraine. Steve found encouragement knowing that listeners in Ukraine, facing suffering, could benefit from his teaching through the book of Job.
